About VirtuAlameda’s Dave Bloch
Dave has been working with the Internet since the pre-Web days of the early 1990’s. He started his first Web design company in 1997, building and hosting sites for small rural businesses. Dave also helped many residents and businesses of his local community connect to the Internet and learn about how to use the incredible new resource. Dave wired networks, built computers, installed the new “Windows” system, and trained many citizens in how to use them.
From 2001 to 2008, Dave was the Webmaster for the County of Nevada, California. Dave designed, built and managed the award-winning MyNevadaCounty.com site, along with five others hosted by the County. The County is now contracting with VirtuAlameda for ongoing maintenance of those sites. (See these on the Examples page.)
Despite the technical experience, Dave is, by training and passion, an educator. His greatest skill is in making technical subjects understandable for “regular people.” Over the past thirty years these subjects have included video production (beginning with the very first inexpensive portable recorders and cameras), personal computers from the Radio Shack Model 1 to current Windows PCs, dial-up bulletin board systems, and then the Internet from early dial-up uses like EMail and newsgroups to the first Web browsers. In the past 7+ years with Nevada County, Dave helped many County staff understand and work with a wide range of technologies and services.
Since moving to Alameda in September 2008, Dave has been focusing on the variety of services now available to help organizations and individuals meet, communicate and collaborate without having to physically travel. Intelligent selection and use of these services can make an organization more efficient and effective, make work more engaging and satisfying, and help save the Earth’s resources at the same time.
...And in the current economy, these cost-saving methods become even more valuable.
